Paul’s, and Westminster Abbey, of significant complexity and strength. ![]() Handel’s oratorios differed from his operas in other ways: They were sung in English rather than Italian, and they employed a chorus-a vehicle capable, in the hands of the well-trained singers of the Chapel Royal, St. In the 1730s, the appetite of increasingly middle-class London audiences for Italian opera faded, and Handel shifted away from opera toward oratorios-musical dramas centered on biblical characters rather than Classical or mythological ones. These dramatic works created and sustained the superstar status of virtuoso singers from Italy by showcasing their dazzling vocal prowess. In the commercial sphere, Handel dominated the London musical scene for more than two decades with operas written in the Italian language and style. One of the anthems Handel wrote for that event, “Zadok the Priest,” was such a sensation that it has been used at every British coronation since. In 1727, the same year that Handel became a naturalized British citizen, George II chose the composer over his official Master of the King’s Music to write for his coronation. Following the success of his “Te Deum and Jubilate,” written for the Peace of Utrecht in 1713, Handel received an annual salary from the Crown. He gained renown writing for Queen Anne and George I grand ceremonial anthems and exuberant instrumental music. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered the mashed potatoes instead. She had the mashed potatoes instead of the fries and thought they were very good. My sister had the Baked Haddock and thought it was very tasty. Sometimes when you get asparagus it can be too soft, but this asparagus, even though it was very thin, was not overcooked. I love asparagus and it didn't disappoint. The french fries, which were nice and thin and looked appetizing, were limp and arrived fairly cold. The fried Jalapenos on top of the steak tips were pretty soggy. The steak tips were very tender and cooked well and the sauce was yummy but a little too sweet. with the shoestring french fries and asparagus as sides. I had the Bourbon Grilled Steak Tips for dinner. It came with beautifully colored tortilla chips and the guacamole was delicious. We had the House Made Guacamole for an appetizer. My sister and I tried this place on Saturday on our way back from Tufts. I would definitely try this restaurant again either for dinner or a late night sit at the bar. Two of my fellow diners had the mac on mac grilled cheese and the 4th person had the harvest grilled cheese. ![]() My cobb salad was large enough for leftovers and very fresh tasting. Our waitress was the perfect combination of friendly and attentive and funny without be overbearing or annoying. Fortunately, our waitress was terrific and the food very good, so my first impression was replaced by a more favorable view. But, for somebody here on a first visit, the high top table with a big screen TV directly behind it and the entrance to the kitchen or serving prep area on the other side of the table, made a bad first impression. I have a feeling that maybe they weren't using the regular dining room at this mid afternoon time. lunch and were put at a high top table in the bar area. ![]() Fortunately one member of our group had been here before. The outside (in a strip type mall) was uninviting and it was not particularly clear where the entrance was. My first visit here - wasn't sure what to expect.
